Some text files[1] were created using AI language models, not necessarily generated directly, but it was enough that I felt that it would stain the feeling of hard work to make my programmatic word counters ignore it.
For example, Assessment of Inferences: Items shows a list of "I do not" and "I do". Now while I wrote these all one by one, I am actually writing in response to what I prompted AI language model to expect about me. Each item is a response to each expectation.
In other words, it thinks that I do this because of the fact that I write 7,000 words a day? No, I don't do this or have that! Or yes, I do this and have that!
I had the word counters ignore this HTML file because I was not writing organically on the spot, and every time that I said "I do not" or "I do," I referenced what AI language models wrote. It is not that I never reference what AI language models say to me.[2] It is more so that when the entire webpage is 100% just saying what AI is saying, but with the only human-written qualifiation being almost entirely the equivalent of "no" and "yes," then it does not feel satisfying at all. This is comparable to swapping the words of AI-generated fiction passages and personalizing their names and descriptions.[3]
This is also the reason that I exclude block quotes and any footnote that was written in double quotes, because I almost always use them to contain the content of AI-generated text relevant to the passage. While there are times that I say "I wrote the following:" with my content in block quote, I can easily add the class "human-made" if I need it and have the word counters ignore such block quotes.
Also:
- I do quote other humans' writing, so having them ignored in the total word count makes sense.
- The word counter also ignores webpages that have only links (serve as navigation) inside them.
